All that you touch,
You change.
All that you change,
Changes you.
The only lasting truth,
Is Change.
— Octavia E. Butler, Parable of the Sower
EARTHSEED
The name “Earthseed” is from Octavia E. Butler’s (1947-2006) visionary science fiction series The Parables. Octavia E. Butler wrote radical works of fictions that inspire social change. “Earthseed” is the idea that humans are like the seeds on earth. We can be transplanted, and through adaption will grow in many different places. I love the idea that we, like seeds, are connected to and nourished by the Earth, yet have infinite potential to grow and adapt, even amidst the tumultuous nature of a world filled with uncertainty. (Nature itself can be chaotic!)
We can survive our present circumstances, through deep social divide and political upheaval, and flourish long enough to create a new future -both as a human race and as individuals. Not only we can change, we can also shape the world around us.
“For all the time I spent traveling, searching for a home,
I found it within my body.”
Hi, I am Coral
I greet you and your ancestors with respect and care.
My journey started in the city of Beijing and a small Muslim village close by where my grandparents farmed wheat, corn, and peaches.
These days, I reside on the traditional land of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Duwamish, Suquamish, Tulalip, and Muckleshoot tribes.
I came to the States when I was 16 and have since lived on the West Coast, in the Midwest, and eventually moved to Seattle from the South. Finding and building my own sense of “home” while reconciling with the external experiences of foreignness and discovering my cultural, racial, and gender identities have led me to become grounded in the wisdom of the body and in relationships with nature, culture, rituals, communities, and ancestors.
As a therapist, I am committed to practicing anti-oppression, client-centered, and body-based therapy. My passion lies in creating a truly affirming space for individuals from marginalized communities. I believe that when the ideology of capitalism, ableism, sexism, classism, colonialism and racism are upheld institutionally, their impact extends to our most intimate human interactions. I aim to walk with my clients towards personal agency to transform our experiences and to find joy, even when the external world is not supportive.
When I am not at work, you can find me spending time with family and friends, reading a good book while drinking tea, doing a little yoga, taking long walks, crafting (learning pottery wheel and crochet currently), tarot-ing, playing, and enjoying Chinese classic literature.

Decolonize mental health care and healing
I am on a journey of continuous learning and unlearning as a human shaped and influenced by larger (social, cultural, political, institutional) systems. I aspire to provide care anchored in anti-oppression and justice-oriented practices. Trauma is political. We cannot truly heal from trauma without naming and resisting the oppressive forces upheld in the systems and institutions of society. I acknowledge the existence and power of these systems while assisting my clients in developing resources to build efficacy and find beauty in their lives.
